Maid: Hard Work, Low Pay, and a Mother's Will to Survive

I had watched the series on Netflix before I read the book and there were some major differences between the two. I found both to be very good, but as in many cases, I liked the book better.

Stolen Woman - A Christian Suspense Novel About Human Trafficking

I can't remember how I connected with Kimberly Rae but she sent me her book to review, and I gladly did. The book was very well-written, and I am happy to see she went on to write several more books. 

We're Going on a Bear Hunt Children's Book - A Modern Classic

One of Faith's respite care providers gave Faith this book when she was really little. She still loves this story and likes to watch different kids reenact the story on YouTube.

Mandy B. Anderson offers insight into her firsthand account of living with chronic illness and how she has been able to conquer fear, keep the faith, and live vibrantly.

MOVIES 

The Road

This good versus evil movie is based on the book, "The Road" by Cormac McCarthy. The film features a father and son trying to survive in a post-apocalyptic world. 

Dear John 

I used to read a lot of Nicholas Sparks, and this book was one of my all-time favorites. I saw the movie after I read the book, and I was a little disappointed that the ending in the movie wasn't the same as the book. 

The Boy in the Striped Pajamas

A heartbreaking movie about the horrors of prejudices, racism, and the disrespect for human life. Such a sad, but necessary movie, especially in today's world of increasing antisemitism and holocaust deniers. 


The Nativity Story

Though not very well-known, this remains one of my favorite Biblical depictions of the Christmas story. 

Beyond Borders

Another heartbreaking movie about the millions of refugees displaced by war, famine, and political corruption.

My Favorite Movies Based on a True Story

My favorite movies are those based on a true story. Since writing this list, I can think of many good ones I've seen throughout the years such as Amazing Grace, Unplanned, Wonder, The Hill, The Zookeeper's Wife, Till, and End of the Rope.

Bon Jovi 2022 Tour: Concert Review in St. Paul, Minnesota 

Of all the rock bands I used to listen to back in the day, Bon Jovi has remained my favorite of all time. I never got the chance to see them when they were in their prime in the late 80s and early 90s but I finally fulfilled that dream in 2022.

Last year, when I heard the news that Pat Sajak was retiring from Wheel of Fortune , I knew I better prepare Faith. When season 41 began, I told her, "This is Pat's last season. Next year, there will be a new host."  Faith's favorite show ever! Faith and I have faithfully watched Wheel of Fortune every night since she was about 5 years old. It's how she learned that AEIOU were vowels. The show was also a great way to reinforce the rest of the alphabet. Counting was reinforced, too. When Vanna turned the letters, she counted how many T's, N's, or other letters there were.  She also learned some geography skills with the different trips they were giving away. Upon winning a trip to Aruba, she would ask, "Where's that?" Sometimes I honestly didn't know and had to look it up. Life Without an Elevator

We are currently on day four with no working elevator in our apartment building, one that it is supposed to be handicapped-accessible. It has been a little frustrating to say the least. It was supposed to be fixed on Wednesday afternoon, but we are still waiting. No working elevator in this apartment building It has been going out off and on recently, but just once, it was a major inconvenience. We were getting Faith ready to go to school and realized the elevator was not working. Needless to say, she was late for school that day. This time we discovered the elevator was out on Monday after we called the Healing Rooms and realized they were open. We gleefully got bundled up in our winter attire - even the below-zero temperature was not going to stop us. We ran into a major disappointment though when we got to the elevator and realized it wasn't working. We went back to our apartment and figured out what to do next. My Tetanus Shot Ordeal: A Real Pain in the Arm

Last Wednesday I had my yearly doctor exam and when she said I should get my tetanus shot updated, I didn't think twice about it. The nurse said my arm would be sore for a couple of days, gave me a handout and stuck the needle in my arm.  The next day my arm was sore and although I found it a little harder to pick up and carry Faith, I was glad the pain wasn't going to last long. Boy was I wrong! But not only was my arm sore, my whole body was. I felt achy and extremely tired. According to a medical site on the Internet, these were mild side effects of the Tetanus shot. If these were only mild side effects, I would really hate to have them at a moderate or severe level. My arm is still red and sore on day 2 after my tetanus shot. On Friday, two days after getting the shot I felt so tired that I took a four-hour nap after getting Faith off to school. Then on Saturday I took a three-hour nap up until 7 o'clock, but still felt tired and was able to go back to sleep around 10.

Feeling Worn and Weary?

Have you ever felt this way?  I know I need to lift my eyes up But I'm too weak Life just won't let up And I know that You can give me rest So I cry out with all that I have left My prayers are wearing thin And I'm worn  Even before the day begins I'm worn I've lost my will to fight I bet there are a lot of special needs parents or parents with very young children who can relate to these words. I know I can. Whenever I hear the song, Worn which contains the above lyrics, I am transported back in time when Faith was a little baby.  I was working full time during the day and trying to look after her at night. She did not sleep well, which meant neither Rob nor I sleep well either. To make things even harder, Rob worked overnights on the weekends. I was in a major state of sleep deprivation. I started drinking caffeine and eating sugar every day at work to help me stay awake. It didn't help that my thyroid was out of whack. Eventually I
